At Spotlight the students have many opportunities to visit off-campus locations. All students take at least two field trips during the session, often more! Saturday is a day of fun in the sun. The second Wednesday of the session is dedicated to class-specific field trips.

Winston-Salem is a wonderful city with lots to offer! Our campus is just a few blocks from many theaters, museums, stores, and cafes. Girls might go on a DADA Gallery Hop, have Sunday brunch at the Bayberry restaurant, learn to juggle at the annual juggling festival, attend a Celluloid Social movie at the Wherehouse or see a play at the Stevens Center. The hardest part is deciding what to do next! The excursions below are just some of this summer’s possibilities.

CAROWINDS AMUSEMENT PARK

Students may spend the day at Carowinds Amusement Park, near Charlotte, NC. Whether girls spend the day riding some of the fastest and tallest roller coasters, watching a live action show, or leisurely floating down Crocodile Park, Carowinds is always a favorite excursion.

FIREWORKS NIGHT AT A BASEBALL GAME

A minor league baseball game, fireworks, and cotton candy are a great combination for a balmy summer evening. The Warthogs are the single-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, and game nights always offer lots of events to enjoy between innings.

A GREAT ESCAPE

A Great Escape is a local favorite for putt-putt, go-cart rides and plenty of other summer time activities. It is the perfect destination for an impromptu trip on a summer afternoon.

STEVENS CENTER FOR THEATER

The North Carolina School of the Arts has lots of summer offerings for theater-lovers at Stevens Theater, which is less than a mile from campus.

Because of our unique and historic location, Spotlight has access to a wide variety of resources to enhance our students’ experiences. Each class takes a program-specific field trip during the session. These field trips are designed to expand upon the material learned in class. Students see how their course of study is applied in a real-world setting. Integral to our total immersion educational philosophy, the trips supplement the curriculum and offer students another way of viewing their discipline.
