Students and staff get together for entertaining and enriching activities at Spotlight every day. Resident Advisors plan daily events so when class is out, students have the opportunity to participate in a myriad of social activities such as craft activities, games on the lawn, team-building and self-esteem-building exercises, lip-synch contests, a trash bash fashion show, dance studios and self-defense classes. In the evenings, RAs often plan project for their own hall groups, so that girls have a chance to spend time with their dorm-mates. Activities are a time for all girls to get to know each other and the staff better.

Twice a week, our students have the opportunity to attend evening seminars. Staff members organize activities and discussion topics around hobbies, interests and current issues. One staff member presents the subject, then opens the floor to student participation. Recently, our staff presented seminars ranging
from scrapbooking to debate forums.

There is also plenty of unstructured free time for girls to play games, talk, and get acquainted on their own terms. The intimacy of residential living offers students important lessons about living on their own. Our residential environment encourages girls to learn about each other during ‘popcorn chats’ and movie nights, hanging out in our lounges, and other activities. Girls are encouraged to be creative with their time, and we support and supervise many new ideas each year.
